San Pedro de Atacama is a place rich in handicrafts. Its elaboration is a tradition that has been passed on as an ancestral rite from generation to generation.
Among its creations, we find beautiful and fine woven llama and alpaca wool, as well as sheep wool.
Also characteristic of the area are the volcanic stone handicrafts of the town of Toconao. As for ceramics, there are reproductions of Atacama ceramics, made by the expert hands of local artisans.
It is worth mentioning the work done in cactus wood, which gives rise to original bread baskets, screens, musical instruments, and ornaments.
A new type of craftsmanship has also emerged, mixing the original ancestral models with the ideas of artisans coming from other places. This mixture of styles gives origin to creations in metals, resin, works with chañar and tamarugo seeds, as well as original textiles and leather articles.
