Located northwest of San Pedro de Atacama, in the Domeyko Mountain Range, lies the archaeological site of Hierbas Buenas, where it is possible to see the petroglyphs of this ancient sector of caravans that crossed the Andes on their journeys from the Northeast of Argentina and the Bolivian Altiplano to the Pacific Ocean. The rock carvings and drawings are very varied and truly spectacular, with anthropomorphic figures, llamas or camelids, birds, monkeys, and dogs. There are also numerous vestiges of corrals and shelters built by shepherds and caravaneers during their stays here.
